Our Story
Brewed on the rugged North Cornwall coast, Tintagel Brewery was born from a love of great beer and the wild landscape that surrounds us. Established in 2009, we remain proudly independent — crafting award-winning ales that reflect the character and spirit of our home.
From the pure spring water drawn from the hills above Tintagel to the finest malts and hops, every pint begins with local ingredients and honest craftsmanship. Our beers are brewed with care, balancing traditional methods with creative twists that celebrate Cornwall’s rich heritage.
Meet Si, our Head Brewer
Si Thresh’s journey in brewing and hospitality has taken him from Yorkshire to South Africa and finally Cornwall, with a few memorable stops along the way. In Yorkshire, he learned the art of brewing and went on to lead brewing operations at one of the region’s top breweries, honing the skills that now define Tintagel Brewery’s award-winning ales.
As Managing Director and Head Brewer, Si combines his love of beer, hospitality, and craftsmanship, guiding the brewery with both passion and precision. Outside the brewery, Si’s life is full: he has a young family, two lively Labradors, and whenever he can steal a moment, he’s out catching waves at Polzeath or Trebarwith.
Our History
Tintagel Brewery was founded in 2009 by John and Liz Heard on their working farm high above the rugged north Cornish coast. What began in a converted milking parlour has grown into an award-winning brewery known for its distinctive, clean ales rooted in local ingredients and traditional craft.
Today, we continue to brew with the same commitment to quality, sustainability and a deep sense of place — creating Cornish beers that reflect the character, landscape and heritage of Tintagel itself.
Legendary Roots
Tintagel Brewery stands in the heart of a landscape steeped in legend — a place where history and myth blur into one. Just over the hill rises Tintagel Castle, long linked to the tales of King Arthur, while nearby St Nectan’s Glen echoes with stories of saints, spirits and ancient woodland rites. Rocky Valley’s mysterious Bronze-Age rock carvings lie cut into the slate, whispering of the people who shaped this land thousands of years before us.
For centuries, travellers, sailors and storytellers have gathered in the historic pubs of Boscastle, Port Isaac, Tintagel and Trebarwith Strand to share tales warmed by good ale and good company. Today, our brewery carries that tradition forward, drawing on the magic of this ancient coastline to craft beers that honour the myths, memories and character of the place we call home.
Award Winning ales
At Tintagel Brewery, our commitment to quality has been recognised across the region and the UK with a series of prestigious awards. We’re proud to have achieved Taste of the West Gold Awards in both 2024 and 2025, celebrating the excellence and consistency of our core ales. Our flagship old ale, Caliburn, has earned national acclaim as a Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2024 and as a finalist at the Great British Beer Festival 2025, placing it among the very best beers in the country.
In the South West, we were honoured with Gold and Category Champion titles at the SIBA Indie Beer Awards 2025, reflecting our dedication to craft at every stage of brewing. Locally, our approach to quality, sustainability and authentic Cornish provenance was further recognised when we won Food & Drink Producer of the Year at the Cornwall Living Awards 2025.

Brewery tours & visitor centre
Experience Tintagel Brewery in the heart of our stunning Cornish landscape. Today, Tintagel Brewery is housed in a purpose-built facility featuring our brewhouse, gift shop and restaurant — the perfect place to enjoy our ales, local food and sweeping coastal views.
Our brewery tours are led by members of our Brewing Team, giving you a genuine behind-the-scenes look at how our award-winning ales are crafted. You’ll learn about our brewing process, hear the stories behind our beers, and finish with a guided tasting of a selection of our ales. Tours run regularly throughout the week, and advance booking is recommended.
